Working
in the Mayoral Suite for the City of Los Angeles was an
honor. The building was completed in 1928. This building
is a combination of architectural styles, including Beaux
Art, with Spanish influences. The Mayors Office had been
remodeled in the 1970’s The 70’s look was
apparent, so our challenge was to remove that dated look
and replace it with a more classically designed look,
yet bringing it up to date meet the needs of day.
We removed wall paneling with dated look and replaced
it with smooth walls. All historic light fixtures were
removed, completely wired and refurbished from 20’s
wiring. All ceiling stenciling was refurbished by master
craftsman. New cabinetry was added for up to date media
availability and to keep the office available to instant
information. We developed plans and drawings and made
presentations to several architects and in L. A area and
with with General Services to coordinate the construction
and its scheduling.
New furniture was incorporated. And most impressive was
the 16 foot by 8 foot high mural, painted by artist, El
Rey. This mural incorporated major architectural and cultural
aspects of the Los Angles we love.
